Local unemployment drops 1 percent in February

The Kentucky Center for Statistics released a report on Thursday showing a one-percent drop in unemployment in Russell County during the month of February compared to the year prior.

Russell County’s unemployment rate was reported at 4.9 percent last month, compared to 5.9 percent in February 2021.

Russell County’s unemployment rate is tied with McCreary County for the highest unemployment rate in the Lake Cumberland region.

Unemployment rates fell in 112 of Kentucky’s 120 counties in February. The lowest rate is in Woodford County at 2.7 percent and the highest in Magoffin County at 13.7 percent.
