KDFWR increasing stocking numbers of striped bass in Lake Cumberland

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is increasing the number of striped bass being stocked in Lake Cumberland this year in an effort to increase angler satisfaction with the fishery.

The department typically stocks 350,000 stripers every year and has a pulse stocking of 500,000 fish every third year, according to Jeff Ross, assistant director of the department’s Fisheries Division.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife will now stock 500,000 striped bass in the lake this year and each year for the foreseeable future.

In the department’s fall sampling last year, Lake Cumberland had the highest all-time catch rate of fish over 25 inches in length.

Lake Cumberland has a minimum size limit of 22 inches for stripers with a two fish limit per person, per day.

The new fishing license year began on March 1st. Licenses and permits can be purchased online at fw.ky.gov or at several local vendors.
