Local gas prices continue to rise sharply as they do across the nation.
On Sunday, the gas price tracker by AAA showed the average price of gas in Russell County to be $3.86.
Many gas stations in Russell County were selling at $3.99/gallon Sunday evening while a few had yet to mark their prices up and were holding at $3.69.
AAA showed the statewide average to be $3.77 on Sunday, while the national average hit a record high at $4.09, just slightly higher than the previous high at $4.08 in July 2008.
Since the Russian attack on Ukraine 11 days ago, American gas prices have risen 13 percent.
