Kentucky State Police continue to investigate a two-vehicle fatal collision that happened on Sunday morning on Bridgewater Road in neighboring Adair County.
Preliminary investigations show that Jessica Wilkinson, age 28, of Columbia, was driving a 2019 Chrysler van northbound on Bridgewater Rd., when she crossed into the south bound lane, striking a 2003 Ford Mustang head-on.
The driver of the Mustang, a 16-year-old juvenile from Columbia, was unable to avoid the collision because of the hillcrest, police said.
Wilkinson and her two passengers, Derek Wilkinson, age 31, of Columbia, and a three your old, received minor injuries. The driver of the mustang and one other juvenile passenger were transported to T.J. Health in Columbia for treatment of their injuries. A juvenile passenger in the back seat of the Mustang was pronounced dead by the Adair County Coroner.
While the deceased juvenile was not identified by KSP, Adair County Schools have announced that 13-year-old Shyanna Marie Harmon passed away in the crash.
This wreck remains under investigation by Trooper Brandon Roark. Trooper Roark was assisted at the scene by other KSP personnel, the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, the Adair County Rescue Squad, and Adair County Fire and EMS.
