Marson leaving Russell County Tourism

Russell County Tourism Director Janette Marson is stepping away from her position.

Marson has been Russell County Tourism Director since 2013, but after 9 years, Marson said she feels now is a time for change.

Marson told WJRS News she is accepting a position as CEO and President of Shelby KY Tourism in Shelbyville, representing Shelbyville and Simpsonville.

The decision wasn’t easy, Marson said, as she has loved her time advocating for tourism in Russell County and Lake Cumberland, but family played a key role for Marson. Her children live in Louisville and Lexington, so she will be moving closer to them.

Marson said she plans to keep the family farm in Creelsboro, with regular visits back to Russell County.

As for where the Russell County Tourism Office goes from here, the tourism board is scheduled to hold a special-called meeting on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at the tourism office to discuss personnel.

Marson’s last day at the Russell County Tourism Office will be March 4.
