Lady Lakers fall to Metcalfe, 3-way tie in 16th District

The Russell County Lady Lakers fell to the Metcalfe County Lady Hornets Tuesday night at Laker Gym by a score of 52-33.

It was a rough night for the Lady Lakers offensively, particularly in the second half where they shot just 2-17 and mustered just 8 points in the half and turned the ball over 20 times in the game.

Addison Hart and Jaterria Coffey were the leading scorers for the Lady Lakers with 6 points each, followed by Maleah Preston and Hannah Yates each with 5, Aniyah Coffey and Sophie Shearer each with 4, and Emily Hart with 3.

Shearer led the Lady Lakers with 12 rebounds, with Preston and Yates finishing with 5 rebounds each.

With the loss, the Lady Lakers are now 7-16 on the season and finish 2-4 in district play in the regular season.

That puts Russell County in a 3-way tie with Cumberland County and Clinton County.

According to Russell County High School Athletics Director Michael Carpenter, a 3-way tie will be settled with a drawing to determine district tournament seeds.

Based on the plan, Clinton County would draw first as the host school to determine their seed, followed by Russell County based on the hosting schedule and then Cumberland County since they hosted the district tournament last year.

Carpenter told WJRS Sports that the 16th District Athletic Directors will hold their district tournament meeting on Wednesday. We’ll post details from the meeting when they’re available.
