An overturned semi tractor trailer blocked the eastbound lanes of the Cumberland Parkway Friday morning.
According to the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the truck, 45-year-old Tavares Bell and his passenger, Pamela Bell, both of Texas, were uninjured in the accident, which blocked traffic on the parkway for more than two hours.
The truck was transporting electrical wire to a business in Somerset when the driver fell asleep at the wheel and ran into the median, overcorrecting with the truck landing on its side.
The accident remains under investigation by the Russell County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Derek Polston and Chief Deputy Jerry Melton are the investigators. They were assisted on scene by Russell County EMS, Russell Springs Fire Department, and other first responders.
