Laker Girls Win, Boys Lose at Home to Warren East

In a girl boy doubleheader at Laker gym Friday night, the Russell County girls and boys basketball teams split with Warren East.   The Lady Lakers won the first game, 41-30, to improve to 2-3 on the season, while the Laker boys fell 78-60 to see their season record drop to 0-4.

Coach Brett Blankenship’s girls team ledd 21-15 at halftime and never trailed on their way to the victory.   Jaterria Coffey had 11 points while Meleah Preston had 7 points and pulled down a career high 14 rebounds to lead the Lady Lakers.

In the boys matchup, the Lakers continued to struggle.   Coach Greg Lundy’s team trailed by 11 points at halftime and by as many as 19 in the third quarter before losing by 18.   Owen Loy with 24 and Mayes Gosser with 21 led the Lakers who remain winless on the season.

Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Edmonton for a 16th district doubleheader with Metcalfe County.
