Thomas Popplewell, age 75, of Russell Springs

Thomas Popplewell, of Russell Springs, passed away at Vanderbilt Medical Center, in Tennessee, on Tuesday, November 9, 2021.  He was 75 years of age.

Born on August 29, 1946, in Russell County, he was a son the late Farris and Zilma McQueary Popplewell.  Tommy was a welder for over 43 years, initially working at Learsiegler and then for Tarter Gate Company for 35 years.  He enjoyed working on lawn mowers and boat motors, but his favorite pastime was fishing. Tommy was a member of Square Oak Separate Baptist Church, where he attended services as long as he was able to do so.  He was a very kind and caring man who loved his family. Tommy will be missed by all who were blessed to know his humble spirit and quiet, soft-spoken voice.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Lois West Popplewell, of Russell Springs, whom he wed on June 15, 1968; a son, Kevin (and Hazel) Popplewell, of Monticello; a daughter, Kim Popplewell, of Liberty; two brothers, Ola Popplewell and Roy Popplewell, both of Russell Springs; a sister, Meridth Hopper, of Russell Springs; a granddaughter, Alexandria (and Jarred) Johnson, of Warrensburg, MO; and a grandson, Joshua Taylor (and Felicia Collins), of Liberty.

In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by four brothers, Marlus Popplewell, Willard Popplewell, and Paul Popplewell; and a sister, Nadean Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM CST, Friday, November 12, 2021, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Bro. Bobby Conner officiating. Burial will follow in the Holt Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM CST, Friday, until time of services.

Joe Wilson, Isaac Wilson, Jeff Dick, Joshua Taylor, Chris Popplewell, and Mark Coots will serve as Tommy’s pallbearers.
