The decision to appoint a new Mayor for the City of Jamestown could come next month.
With the resignation of current Mayor Nick Shearer to take effect on December 31, names continue to be discussed as possible replacements.
Under Kentucky law, a vacancy in the office of Mayor is filled by a vote of the city council.
Sources tell WJRS News that vote could come at the regular monthly meeting of the Jamestown City Council set for Thursday, December 16th. Current council members Regina Hinton and Barry Coffey are both said to be contenders for the position. One Jamestown resident, Richard Bennett, has filed for the office of Mayor, although the filing deadline is not until August.
The person appointed by the council will serve thru the November election next year, according to state law.
