Gary D. Marvin, age 81, of Russell Springs

Gary D. Marvin of Russell Springs passed away Monday November 8, 2021, at Russell County Hospital in Russell Springs, Kentucky. He was 81 years old.

Born April 27, 1940, in St. Clair MI, he was the son of Wayne and Daisy (Isaac) Marvin, the 10th of twelve children. As an entrepreneur and talented “Jack of All Trades”, he started his own auto collision repair shop and nursery/landscaping businesses. A rebel in his early years, he enjoyed racing snowmobiles and motorcycles; but his true passions included country dancing, home construction, and designing and building the myriad of projects his creative mind could dream up – new designs for snowmobiles, motorcycles, trucks, boats, and even highway billboards.

Later in life, he fabricated both wood and aluminum boats and traveled the Midwest, Southern, and Eastern U.S. waterways in his truly unique houseboat designed to navigate rough waters … a trip chronicled in the Houseboat Magazine article “The Great Circle”. His most recent project completed just this year was a 34’ houseboat he designed and built with his son.

Gary is survived by his partner of 29 years, Margie Dobson and her family, daughter Shar (Ron) Block and grandson Alex (Kayla) Block, great grandson Asher Block; his oldest son’s family Jeff (Karen) Marvin and grandsons Kelby Marvin, Riley Marvin, Derek (Loren) Hughey and great granddaughter Skylar, Tanner (Whitney) Hughey and great grandson Calvin, and Cory Hughey; his middle son Stuart Marvin, and his youngest son’s family Gary (Gabriel) Marvin and grandchildren Susie (Gregg) Jones and Andrew (Megan) Marvin.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Susan Marvin and his daughter, Tanya Marvin.

Viewing will be at the Bernard Funeral Home located 367 N. Main Street, Russell Springs KY on Saturday November 13 beginning at 11:30am and ending with a small service at 12:30pm CST presided over by Pastor Christian Naylor.  Upon Gary’s request cremation has taken place and his ashes will be buried next to Susan and Tanya in West Branch, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to your local Hospice organization.

Arrangements for Gary are entrusted to Bernard Funeral Home.  An online guestbook is available at www.bernardfuneralhome.com.
