Local unemployment drops nearly 1 percent last month

Unemployment in Russell County dropped nearly 1 percent in September 2021 compared to the previous year, according to data from the Kentucky Center for Statistics.

Unemployment in Russell County was at 4.5 percent last month, compared to 5.4 percent in Sept. 2020.

Despite the decrease, unemployment in Russell County was tied for the highest in the Lake Cumberland District. Of the 10 counties in the Lake Cumberland District, all but McCreary County were lower. McCreary County also had an unemployment rate of 4.5 percent.

The unemployment rate for the state was 3.9 percent.
