Ray Hammond, Jr., 71, entered eternal life Thursday, September 9, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 1, 1950, in Somerset, Kentucky, to the late Samuel Ray and Reba Garner Hammond.
Jr., as he was known by his friends and family, devoted his working years to GE in Louisville and Stephen’s Pipe & Steel in Russell Springs. He enjoyed traveling, car auctions, the Stock Market, and was an avid Louisville Cardinal fan.
He is survived by his wife, Arlyn Robles Hammond of Russell Springs; one son, Jody Hammond and wife Donna, of Columbia; two daughters, Tiffany “Nicky” Cheatham and husband Bryan, of Columbia, and Christy Faith Hammond of Russell Springs; four grandchildren, Jasmine Humphress and husband Adam, Shelbi Fisher and husband Kaleb, Ty Cheatham, and Ellie Cheatham; three great grandsons, Easton Humphress, Luke Fisher, and Jace Fisher; twelve siblings, Terry Hammond, Randall Hammond, David Hammond, James Hammond, Ralph Hammond, Bobby Hammond, and Floyd Hammond, Shirley Popplewell, Chestlene Popplewell, Peggy Begley, Lisa Lawless, and Patty Hammond; several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Hammond; and two brothers, Donnie and Michael Hammond.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 13, 2021, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Brother Ted Stidham and Terry Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in the Russell Springs City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. Sunday, September 12, 2021, and will continue Monday morning at 8:00 A.M., until time of services.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Cheatham, Chris Popplewell, Steve Hammond, Dewayne Hammond, Josh Hammond, Roger Coffey, and Jeff Gaskins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jr.’s coworkers from Stephens Pipe and Steel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christy Faith Hammond education fund, funeral expenses, or Gideon Bibles. Donations can be left at the funeral home.
The family requests that all attendees for the visitation and funeral service wear a mask or face covering.
