RSPD Officer recognized by city for saving man’s life

Russell Springs Mayor Eddie Thomas, the City Council, and Police Chief Tim Pierce recognized Russell Springs Police Officer Debra Necessary at Thursday’s Russell Springs City Council meeting.

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, Aug. 3, Necessary encountered a 51-year-old man leaning over the US 127 overpass while on patrol. She stopped and talked to the man, eventually pulling him away when she realized that he was intending to attempt suicide.

Necessary took the man to the hospital where he was later transferred to a mental health facility.

The city presented Necessary with a plaque for going above and beyond in the line of duty, but for Necessary, she said she was just doing her job and doing what any other officer would’ve done, simply serving the people of the community.
