The body of a Lexington man was discovered by fishermen early Thursday morning near the areas of Swan Pond and Helm’s Landing in Russell County.
Russell County Coroner Mark Coots told WJRS News the body was identified as 62-year-old Frank Steven Slade of Lexington. Slade reportedly owned a property near the Cumberland River as well.
Kentucky State Police told WJRS News that Slade had washed down approximately one-half mile from the privately owned boat ramp below the rental cabin he was working at. It was confirmed through the Corps of Engineers that generators from Wolf Creek Dam had been shut off since midnight prior to the discovery of the body, causing the water level to decrease and leading to the discovery.
The cause of death is undetermined at this time. The body is being sent to Frankfort for an autopsy on Friday and Kentucky State Police is leading an investigation.
First responders from Kentucky State Police, the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, Russell County Rescue Squad, and Russell County Coroner’s Office spent several hours working at the scene Thursday.
