Shanna Tarter named new RCHS Principal

Shanna Tarter will be the new principal at Russell County High School.

The school-based decision making council met for roughly 3.5 hours yesterday, interviewing two finalists for the position before returning to open session and casting a unanimous vote in favor of Tarter for the position.

Tarter has been a teacher at Russell County High School as well as Russell County Middle School, and over the last five years, has led the Laker Success Academy at the school.

“We welcome Mrs. Tarter in this role,” Russell County Schools Superintendent Michael Ford said following last night’s meeting. “We look forward to working with her in that role and we’re looking forward to what she brings to the high school. She has a proven track record of successful classroom teaching at both the middle and high school level, as well as being the lead teacher for our Laker Success Academy and brings all that to the table.”

Tarter said she’s excited to take over the position and welcomes the challenge of being the school’s next principal.

“I’m certainly excited about this opportunity and I’m looking forward to getting started,” Tarter said. “I know it’s going to be a challenge, but we can turn RCHS around and it’s going to be a great place to work and a great place to learn.”

Tarter will officially take over the position on Aug. 1.
