The Russell County Lakers went on the road to Taylor County Tuesday night, coming away with a 9-3 victory against a Cardinals team that sits atop the 5th Region.
The game was tied at 3-3 after two innings, but the Lakers scored six unanswered runs and only allowed one hit the rest of the way to pick up the victory and move to 22-5 on the season.
Cody Luttrell picked up the win on the mound, pitching three innings and giving up three runs on four hits and striking out one. Nathan Lawson entered in relief, pitching four shutout innings and giving up just one hit while striking out four batters.
It was a big night for Issac Roy, hitting a two-run homerun in the 5th inning that put the Lakers up 6-3. Roy drove in four runs on the night, finishing 3-4 at the plate.
Nick Aaron drove in two runs for the Lakers, and Nathan Lawson and Evan Hammond drove in one run each.
The Lakers will have today off before traveling to Southwestern High School in Somerset on Thursday for a matchup against the Warriors, who enter with a record of 6-15.
JV Lakers take down Taylor County
The JV Lakers opened up an early 3-0 lead on Taylor County last night and withstood a late rally to pick up a 4-3 win.
Bryce Cowell drove in two runs for the Lakers, and Camden Carpenter also added an RBI as the JV Lakers improved to 20-3 on the season.
Carpenter got the starting nod for the Lakers, pitching two scoreless innings while giving up no hits, walking three and striking out three.
Trace Stringer pitched two innings in relief, earning the win on the mound, giving up one run on two hits with one strikeout.
Lincoln Helm picked up the save, pitching one inning and giving up two runs on one hit and striking out two.
