Laker Baseball teams defeat Southwestern

The Russell County Lakers Baseball team went on the road and defeated Southwestern last night by a score of 8-3.

The Lakers trailed 3-1 going into the fourth inning, but scored seven unanswered runs to come away with a win, their fifth in a row.

Evan Hammond picked up the win on the mound, pitching six innings and giving up three runs on five hits and striking out eight batters.

Camden Carpenter pitched one inning in relief, giving up just one hit and no runs.

Gavin Gossage drove in three runs for the Lakers and Nathan Lawson drove in two runs, including a solo home run in the sixth inning, his eighth home run of the season.

CJ Vonfumetti and Noah Hadley drove in one run each. Bryce Cowell finished tied for a team-high with three hits.

The Lakers are now 23-5 on the season.

JV Lakers 3 – Southwestern 1

The JV Lakers picked up a 3-1 win over Southwestern Thursday night.

Landon Walters drove in two runs for the Lakers and Lincoln Helm drove in one run.

Walters picked up the win on the mound, pitching three innings and giving up one run on one hit and striking out six batters.

Logan Lawless entered in relief, pitching two innings and giving up no runs, no hits and striking out three batters.

The JV Lakers are now 21-3 on the season.
