Lady Laker Softball defeats Marion County in home opener

The Russell County Lady Laker Softball Team withstood a late rally from the visiting Marion County Knights, and junior Sophie Shearer came up with a catch on a line drive in the 7th inning to seal a 12-11 victory for the Lady Lakers.

Russell County Head Coach Scott Jones picked up his first victory as head coach of the Lady Laker program, despite this being his second year at the helm of the program. Jones took over before the 2020 season, which ended up being cancelled because of COVID-19.

Senior Natalie Hart picked up the win on the mound for the Lady Lakers. Junior Tarryn Reynolds came in with two outs in the sixth inning to close out the game for Russell County.
