Russell Springs seeking to annex part of West Road into city

Proposed annexation will not include any residences

There was more talk of annexation at Monday night’s Russell County Fiscal Court meeting.

Russell Springs City Clerk Chris Ramsey and City Attorney David Smith spoke to the fiscal court about the city’s plan to annex a portion of West Road into the city.

Ramsey told the magistrates and County Judge Executive Gary Robertson that no residences would be included in the annexation. Only the road would be annexed, amounting to about 0.711 miles of roadway.

Ramsey said the city wanted to annex the road because it encompasses city utility lines and would form a connection with other city property.

With the annexation, the city would be responsible for any maintenance on the road as is the case with any other city street.

The court voted unanimously to approve the request, which will now go through an ordinance process beginning with a Russell Springs City Council meeting that is expected to take place later this week.
