The job posting for Russell Springs Police Chief will remain open until Nov. 16, and so far, the city has received eight applications for the position, including one applicant that is currently employed with the Russell Springs Police Department.
With more than a month remaining until the deadline to apply, more applications are expected to come in before the next step of the hiring process.
That step includes the formation of a committee. That committee will consist of a Russell Springs City Council member, City Clerk Chris Ramsey, City Attorney David Smith, a business community member and a citizen community member, along with a representative from Kentucky League of Cities.
This committee will play a major role in the interviewing process of the applicants.
Currently, Melissa Taylor is serving as interim chief, and Thomas praised her for the work she has done in that role.
“Melissa is doing a great job as interim chief and we appreciate her for that,” Thomas said.
