KHSAA Says All Persons Attending High School Football Games Must Wear Masks

Lakers Will Open Season at Ron Finley Field on September 11th Against Casey

The Kentucky high school football season is scheduled to begin across Kentucky on September 11th.    Locally, the Russell County Lakers will open their season that evening at home against Casey County.

Kentucky High School Athletic Association Commissioner Julian Tackett told school superintendents this week that masks will be required for all fans attending games.

Tackett said school officials should begin assessing their sports facilities’ capacity in light of the latest restrictions on crowd size and occupancy.

Tackett said the KHSAA continues to work toward a start of football practice on August 24, and the board is working on a “Healthy at Sports” guidance document on how to conduct games, which will be submitted to the Kentucky Department for Public Health for comment.  Locally, Athletic Director Michael Carpenter will lead the efforts to make sure Russell County schools and their athletic events are in compliance. Tackett hopes to have a final version, spelling out requirements and options, sent to school districts before August 24.
