The Eli Fire Department was called out yesterday afternoon to a report of a structure fire on Pine Top Road in eastern Russell County.
According to Eli Fire Chief Marty Kaszuk, the structure was an unoccupied rental property owned by O’Neal Wade. Kaszuk says first units on the scene encountered heavy fire in the rear of the structure extending to the second floor.
The structure did sustain severe damage to the rear of the home and upper floors. The Eli Fire Department was assisted by the Russell Springs, Dunnville, and Evona Fire departments for water supply due to the lack of hydrants in the area. Kaszuk told WJRS NEWS 25 firefighters fought the fire for approximately three hours.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
