Jamestown Woman Killed During Morning Walk Wednesday From Falling Branch

A routine morning walk yesterday turned into a tragedy for a Jamestown woman and her family.

44-year-old Rebecca Hodges went for a walk near her home on Garr Ridge Road around 9:30 yesterday morning.   During her morning walk, a huge tree limb fell as she walking along the roadway, striking her in the head, and resulting in her death.

Russell County Coroner Mark Coots told WJRS NEWS that Hodges was walking by herself when the tragic event happened.   She had apparently posted a photo of herself on Facebook around 9:30, noting that she was going for her daily walk.   Coots said workers, about 100 yards away, heard the tree fall and discovered Hodges.   The Russell County E-M-S initially responded to the scene.

Coots said Hodges died of blunt force trauma to the head.   Many persons took to social media yesterday and last night to express sympathies and shock at the news of Hodges’ death.   In recent years, Hodges was employed as a substitute aide for the Russell County school system.
