Kickoffs for high school sports will have to wait a few weeks longer this fall, but are still expected to happen
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association voted yesterday to start high school football on September 11th. Full practice for high school football teams across the state can start on August 24th. The Athletic Association also voted to begin soccer, cross country, and girls’ volleyball this fall. Practice for those sports will also begin on August 24th, but is limited to six hours per week for the first week, then a full week of practice starting August 31st, and then competition the week of September 7th.
The postponed start dates and limited practice times are necessary as Kentucky tries to get control of a coronavirus pandemic that has seen cases surge in recent weeks
Under the approved plan, the state football playoffs and its championship games in November would move back one week.
