Large Amount of Money Missing from Account at Adair County Jail

Almost One Hundred Thousand Dollars reportedly missing from an account at the Adair County Jail has prompted Kentucky Auditor Mike Harmon to call for a criminal investigation.

In an audit released yesterday, Harmon said an inmate account at the Columbia jail was short $97,451 from funds it had received on behalf of inmates, but which were never deposited. Harmon said the funds in the inmate account are to be refunded to inmates upon release. Harmon’s office found that from July 1st 2018 thru June 30th 2019, the funds received had not been deposited. Harmon’s audit report said the matter was being referred to the Kentucky State Police for investigation.

Adair County Jailer Joey White said the county has already contacted the State Police about the matter but the investigation couldn’t be completed until the audit was finished. White said he knew there was missing money but denied any involvement.
