RS Resident Receives Award From Gatton Academy

A Russell Springs resident who attends the Gatton Academy at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green has earned a prestigious award.

Maggie Gossage, a senior from Russell County High School, recently earned second place in the Behavioral and Social Sciences category and the Office of Naval Research’s Special Award for her research, “Male Body Image and Action Figure Physiques.”     

 The award was presented to Gossage during the recent Louisville Regional Science and Engineering Fair which was held virtually on March 7th.

The Gatton Academy at Western Kentucky University was established in 2007 and became Kentucky’s first residential two-year program for gifted and talented junior and seniors. The Gatton Academy’s students enroll as juniors and are full-time WKU students pursuing their interests in advanced science, technology, engineering and mathematical careers.

The Gatton Academy has been consistently recognized as one of the nation’s top-performing schools
