Kentucky Has a Goal of Ending Childhood Obesity, and Kentucky Schools Could Help

Gov. Andy Beshear announced Monday that Kentucky has been selected for the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Council’s  2020 DON’T QUIT! Campaign.

Beshear said the importance of physical activity and the positive effects on a child’s self-esteem and academics could not be overstated.   Beshear said he wanted to see Kentucky schools to get involved to improve health outcomes for all children, including a focus on ending childhood obesity.

Beshear further stated that the DON’T QUIT Campaign provided a real opportunity for every elementary and middle school in the state to demonstrate what they are doing to be physically active and healthy.

School district and educators are encouraged to visit www.natgovfit.org, download the simple nomination form and let the Fitness Council know why your school deserves to be awarded a brand new, taxpayer free, fitness center.

The Fitness Counsel will deliver a state-of-the-art DON’T QUIT! Fitness Center to three Kentucky elementary or middle schools.    School nominations will be accepted until Friday, March 20, 2020.

For more information about the Fitness Council, persons may or to download a nomination form, visit www.natgovfit.org.
