The filing deadline for the office was 4:00 pm this past Friday. Two candidates, Josh Branscum and Mark Polston, were the only two persons to file their candidacy papers with the Secretary of State’s office in Frankfort. Both Branscum and Polston are Republicans. The winner in the May primary will be unopposed in November as no Democrat filed. The winner of the May primary will serve as State Representative for Russell, Clinton, Cumberland, and a portion of Pulaski county, succeeding Jeff Hoover, who announced in September he would not seek re-election after 24 years in the legislature.
