Former Detective for RC Sheriff’s Dept. Files Lawsuit Against Columbia

Joey Hoover, of Jamestown, alleges in his lawsuit filed recently that age discrimination was the reason he was not hired as a Detective with the Columbia Police Department. Hoover applied for the position in November of 2018 when he was 52 years old. Hoover alleges that Columbia Mayor Pam Hoots and Police chief Jason Cross both informed him that he was going to be hired.

Three vacant positions on the police department were ultimately filled by three individuals younger than Hoover, according to the lawsuit.

Claims made in a civil lawsuit present one side of the issue.

The action was filed in Adair Circuit Court
