Flu Numbers Increasing Across the State

Due to the high number of flu cases in the area, Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset is restricting visitor access.

As of Wednesday afternoon, visitation is limited to immediate family members only. Anyone with flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough or colds, will not be allowed.

Children under the age of 12 will also not be allowed to visit.

The hospital did not say when it expects to life the visitor restrictions.

The local school district is seeing close to the normal number of students absent from classes.

According to Cindy Damron, Director of Pupil Personnel in the district, numbers are close to the norm here in Russell County.

Damron tells WJRS News students being absent were down only the slightest bit. Russell County usually runs about 94.5% after Christmas, and we are at 93.15.

Looking at the numbers by schools…

Jamestown Elementary School- 93.11

Russell County High School- 92.19

Russell County Middle School- 91.72

Russell Springs Elementary School- 94.42

Salem Elementary School- 95.69
