Longtime RCHS girls’ basketball coach Craig Pippen resigned from the position on Monday and announced he’s taking a job at Glasgow High School as assistant girls’ basketball coach, assistant boys’ golf coach and head girls’ tennis coach. Pippen’s wife, Liana, is also employed by Glasgow Independent Schools. In a statement to WJRS on Monday evening, Pippen, who was also the RCHS tennis coach this past season, said the move is what’s best for his family financially and that it was tough to pull his three children, who are all student-athletes, out of the local school system.
Pippen coached Russell County to nine championships in the past decade, including eight 16th district titles and the 2017 4th region championship.
In the statement, Pippen said the program will continue to grow and improve and that he was just a small piece of a special program. Pippen, who has totaled 332 wins as a head basketball coach in his career, said in the statement that he will always be a Laker deep down and wishes nothing but the best for the Lady Laker basketball program moving forward. A search for a new girls’ basketball coach will begin immediately.
