Threat for Strong to Severe Thunderstorms Exists Today

Good Wednesday morning, everyone. The stretch of unsettled weather is going to continue today with yet another chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of these storms could become strong to severe.

There’s the latest outlook from the Storm Prediction Center as it pertains to the threat for severe thunderstorms. The Lake Cumberland area is in the green level 1 “Marginal Risk”, but we do note that yellow level 2 “Slight Risk” is just to our west that is into Adair County. Let’s check the latest high-resolution-rapid-refresh (HRRR) model…

It appears we may have a couple of waves come through. I think the best timing will be anywhere from 2:00 pm this afternoon to 2:00 am Thursday morning in terms of the chances for strong to severe thunderstorm. We will keep a close watch on this and will be updating this post throughout the day as changes are made and new information become available.
