The Russell County Industrial Development Authority board voted Tuesday morning to donate three acres at the Lake Cumberland Regional Industrial Complex for a proposed fire department substation.
Russell Springs Fire Department Assistant Chief Mark Barnett and members of the volunteer department showed the board architectural renderings and a map of the proposed site along French Valley Road. Barnett said the department has worked on the project for about three years. With the property secured, he said construction could begin in spring 2027.
The location would help firefighters serve growing development along U.S. 127 between Russell Springs and Jamestown. It is also near the industrial park, the new SEED Academy, Russell County High School and the Russell County Business Park. Future plans could include a training facility.
The land donation is conditional on state highway department approval for highway access. Russell Springs Mayor Eddie Thomas said the proposed second station will be discussed further at the City Council’s October meeting.
