Russell County, Lake Cumberland area in moderate drought

Last April was among the wettest in recent history, with the Russell County Mesonet Station recording over 8 1/3 inches of rain over the course of the month.

This April is a totally different story, as Russell County and the Lake Cumberland area are in a moderate drought according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

So far this month, the local mesonet station has reported less than half-an-inch of rain.

The southwestern portion of the state, including the Bowling Green area, are classified as being in severe drought.

No significant rainfall is projected for the area over the next several days, so drought conditions are expected to persist.
