Laker Tennis off to strong start

The Laker Tennis team is off to a strong start this season under new head coach Chris Godby, with both the boys and girls picking up victories against Southwestern yesterday.

The boys defeated Southwestern 6-3 overall.

In singles matches:

Carson Buras lost 7-9

Ethan Coe won 8-3

Daniel Blakey won 8-3

Sebastian Betts-Jiminez lost 0-6

Owen Buras won 6-2

Ben Brown won 6-4

 

In doubles matches:

Carson Buras/Ethan Coe won 8-3

Daniel Blakey/Sebastian Betts-Jiminez lost 2-6

Owen Buras/Ben Brown won 7-6

 

The Laker Boys also picked up a pair of exhibition wins:

Gage Bryant/Clay Antle won 7-5

Andrew Bennett/Jackson Emerson won 6-1


The girls team defeated Southwestern 9-0.

In singles matches:

Abby Helm won 8-1

Anna Kimbrell won 8-6

Dori Ballou won 8-2

Callie Terry won 6-3

Laila Hammond won 6-0

Khloe Stephens won 6-0


In doubles:

Abby Helm/Anna Kimbrell won 8-1

Dori Ballou/Callie Terry won 6-0

Laila Hammond/Khloe Stephens won 6-2


The girls also went 2-1 in doubles exhibitions.

Brinda Patel/Audrey Bennett won 6-0

Morgan Garner/Dixie Roy won 6-2

Molli Evans/Stella Hammond lost 2-6


In a mixed doubles exhibition:

Clay Antle/Evie Ramsey won 6-1


The tennis teams are in action again on Saturday at the Buchanan Indoor in Bowling Green.

The Lakers will take on Bowling Green at 9 a.m. and South Warren at 1 p.m.
