The Russell County Sheriff’s Office is warning of continued scam calls in the area.
The scammers are claiming to be representatives of the sheriff’s office and claim that residents have active warrants for their arrest.
These scammers are also pressuring people to send them money to remove the warrant.
Sheriff Derek Polston said his office has received multiple reports of these scammers targeting elderly residents in the community, and local residents have lost significant amounts of money in these scams.
Polston said oftentimes, these lost funds cannot be recovered.
He advises anyone receiving calls like these to hang up immediately and avoid giving out any kind of personal information such as date of birth, social security number, bank information or drivers license number.
