A new program is in the works aimed at providing advocates for children in the judicial system.
Court Appointed Special Advocates, commonly referred to as CASA, is a program in 80 percent or more of Kentucky counties, but currently is not in Russell or Wayne counties.
Family Court Judge Jennifer Upchurch Edwards was a guest on Community Conversation on WJRS and provided more information about what exactly CASA does within the judicial system.
Edwards said those involved in the program develop a relationship with the child or children involved and advocate for their best interests within the court system.
There are extensive screening and training requirements to be involved in the CASA program.
