Russell Springs man dies after boat capsizes

A Russell Springs man died Saturday morning after falling into the water in the Caney Fork area when his boat capsized.

Russell County Coroner Mark Coots told WJRS News 44-year-old Armando Penaloza was pronounced deceased at Russell County Hospital Saturday morning.

First responders were called out at around 4:30 Saturday morning to a report that a boat with two men on it had capsized in the Caney Fork area.

One man was found in the water alert and conscious, while Penaloza was found unconscious. Rescue crews removed Penaloza from the water and administered CPR. Both men were taken to the hospital, and the coroner’s office later pronounced Penaloza deceased there.

Details of what caused the boat to capsize remain unclear at this time. The investigation is ongoing by the Russell County Coroner’s Office and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife.
