Those who haven’t paid their county property taxes and want to avoid the 5 percent penalty will need to make those payments soon.
Russell County Sheriff Derek Polston is reminding county property owners that the last day to pay property taxes and avoid the 5 percent penalty is Monday, as the courthouse will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday for the New Year holiday.
Any mailed payments must be postmarked by December 31 to avoid the penalty, which will be added on to bills beginning January 1.
The sheriff’s office will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday.
