The Russell County Laker and Lady Laker Basketball teams picked up big district wins in a home doubleheader over Metcalfe County last night.
The Lady Lakers came out on top in the first game by a score of 76-67.
It was a big night for junior Aniyah Coffey, who scored 30 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
The win was the first of the season for Russell County, as the Lady Lakers improved to 1-5 on the season while handing Metcalfe County its first loss to move to 5-1.
The Lakers came up with a big win in the nightcap, defeating the Hornets by a score of 78-58.
Mayes Gosser led Russell County with a double-double, scoring 21 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
Five Lakers scored in double figures, with Mayes Gosser (21), Owen Loy (18), Bryson Irvin (11), Max Davis (11), and Maddox Shearer (10) recording double digits in the scoring column.
The Lakers improve to 3-3 on the season with the win.
