The Russell Springs Volunteer Fire Department announced that it raised more than $8,800 for the WHAS Crusade for Children.
The fire department and other volunteers were stationed at the intersection of Highway 80 and 127 last weekend collecting donations for the Crusade for Children, and the fire department reported the total raised at $8,848.23.
This is the 54th year the fire department has been involved in collecting donations for the crusade, which raises funds for agencies, schools, and hospitals, all with the shared goal of improving the lives of children with special needs.
Fire Chief Bobby Johnson said he’s thankful for the community’s support and noted this is a special event every year for the department, particularly because of the passion and dedication of former fire chief, H.M. Bottom who was a major supporter of the crusade.
Over the last five years, the department has helped raise more than $46,000 locally for the crusade.
