Wayne County’s Whittenburg joins race for Commonwealth’s Attorney

A Monticello attorney has filed to run for Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 57th district, which includes Russell and Wayne counties.

Monticello attorney Lee Whittenburg filed his candidate papers on Friday.

He will challenge incumbent Matthew Leveridge in the Republican primary in May.

Whittenburg ran for office in 2022, challenging incumbent district judge Scarlett Latham. Whittenburg was defeated in that race.
