School board votes to go mask optional until December 20

The Russell County Board of Education voted unanimously Monday night to approve a change to the district’s mask policy that will make masks optional for Russell County students, teachers, staff, and visitors until December 20, the next meeting of the board.

Masks are optional this week in Russell County Schools based off the state map showing Russell County in the orange last Thursday.

The new policy will keep masks optional until December 20 when the board meets again and re-evaluates the COVID-19 numbers.

Masks are still required on buses due to a CDC order and at the Lake Cumberland Regional College and Workforce Center due to a state order.
