Russell County EMS Averaging More Than 200 Runs a Month

Russell County EMS continues to see a busy year, responding to more than 1,700 calls during the first seven months of 2026.

EMS Director Charles Shepherd says the department currently has 35 employees. That includes 13 paramedics, seven Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians, 14 EMTs, and one office clerk.

The local ambulance service is averaging well over 200 runs each month. From January 1 through July 31, Russell County EMS responded to 1,720 runs.

July alone accounted for 220 runs, with EMS crews driving just under 10,000 miles during the month.

Those numbers work out to an average of nearly eight ambulance runs per day through the first seven months of the year.
