Questions remain regarding school board seat

Yesterday on local news, we reported on the ongoing situation involving the District 2 board of education seat.

Board member Eric Selby opted not to seek re-election to the seat and only one candidate filed paperwork to run for the seat, which was Jeramy Coffey.

However, according to state law, Coffey would be ineligible to serve on the board of education due to having a relative currently employed by the school district.

The Kentucky School Board Association also notes that a board of education member cannot serve as an officer or employee of a county or city. Coffey is an employee of the City of Russell Springs.

WJRS News reached out to the Russell County Clerk’s Office yesterday. The clerk’s office said they were waiting for official word from the state board of elections regarding the eligibility of his application.

We will provide more information as it is available.
