Monticello Police Chief and Jamestown resident Joey Hoover was recognized last week at a law enforcement appreciation luncheon in Manchester.
Hoover was recognized by Congressman Hal Rogers of Kentucky’s 5th Congressional District. Rogers presented Hoover with a United States flag that was flown over the capitol and a commemorative coin.
Hoover was also recognized by Kash Patel, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation with a certificate and personal “Director’s Challenge” coin.
Hoover recently announced that he will be retiring from law enforcement after 35 years of service. Hoover started as a special deputy in Russell County in 1988, and joined the Jamestown Police Department in 1989. He later became Chief of Police in Jamestown in 1995.
After 16 years with Jamestown Police, Hoover became the Director of State Park Rangers for 8 years, retiring in 2013.
His law enforcement career also included a four-year stint as a detective with the Russell County Sheriff’s Office before joining Monticello Police as a patrol officer and K9 officer before later becoming Chief of Police in Monticello.
