Local voter registration continues to decrease

As the May primary nears, local voter registration numbers continue to decline.

In January, the state board of elections reported 13,797 registered voters in Russell County. That’s down from 13,812 in December, and a notable decrease from January 2025, when there were 14,380 registered voters locally.

The Secretary of State’s office announced around 4,200 voters were removed from the state’s voter rolls in January. The office, however, does not have a breakdown of the number of voters removed by county or the reason for removal.

Those who have not yet registered to vote but wish to do so must register by April 20 to be eligible to vote in the May primary election.
