Local Kentucky Utilities customers will continue to see higher rates.
LG&E and KU sought a rate increase this past September, citing a need to make system improvements due to aging infrastructure and equipment damage from severe weather events.
This week, the Kentucky Public Service Commission approved a rate increase that was smaller than what LG&E and KU initially requested.
The average KU customer will see an increase of about $9 on their monthly bill.
The new rates take effect immediately. However, the utilities began using interim rates on January 1 that were higher, so some customers could see credits on their bills in the next 60 days.
There are roughly 1,200 KU customers in Russell County.
