Lee Whittenburg has filed to run for district judge in the 40th District, Division 2.
The district includes Russell, Clinton and Wayne counties.
Whittenburg, an attorney from Monticello, unsuccessfully ran for the office of Commonwealth’s Attorney last year. After being defeated by incumbent Matthew Leveridge, Whittenburg filed a lawsuit in Russell Circuit Court alleging election fraud and ballot tampering.
That case was dismissed in August 2024.
So far, Whittenburg is the only candidate to file for this office. The seat is currently held by Judge James Lawson.
